2009 Emerging Trends Survey: U.S. Domestic Relocation Policy

Not surprisingly, Cartus' Emerging Trends in Global Mobility survey: U.S. Domestic Relocation Policy indicated that the struggling economy and real estate markets are the biggest challenges faced by U.S. companies.

Some highlights of the survey include:

  • Companies are exploring alternatives to "traditional" assignments - approaches include more short-term assignments, local hires and training programs, and extended business travel.
  • Companies are balancing talent management and cost pressures - 51% of respondents expected talent management shortages over the next year.
  • Employee Home Marketing Support - surprisingly few companies have adopted policy approaches to combat market conditions. For instance:
    • Mandatory marketing time is in place for slightly over 50% of respondents
    • Mandatory list price parameters are in place for only 27%, although another 26% recommend this means of preventing "overlisting" by employees.
    • List price reductions during the marketing process were required by only 17% of respondents.
