Cartus Brings Industry Insight and Guidance to Worldwide ERC Global Workforce Symposium 202One

From October 19 to 22, Cartus attended the Worldwide ERC® Global Workforce Symposium 202One in Chicago.

It was a great pleasure for Cartus to not only participate in the symposium as a whole but to showcase the valuable insight of our thought leaders across three panel discussions and represent Cartus at our tradeshow booth.

Shedding Light on Hot Industry Topics

How has the relocation management industry changed over the past 18 months? Cartus’ Rob Moore, Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing, contributed valuable insights on Wednesday’s panel, “Industry Update Session: Relocation Management Companies.” Points covered included:

  • Diverse risks to businesses thanks to increasing compliance complexity (e.g., massive tax bills and time-consuming audits)

  • Different reasons companies struggle with compliance, including lack of tools or processes to track where employees are, fragmented data sources, and heavy reliance on manual efforts

  • Solutions needed to keep the business moving forward, offer flexibility to meet talent needs, and avoid pitfalls of non-compliance.

Thursday’s panel discussion, “A Wealth of Opportunity: The Untapped Potential of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I) in Global Mobility”—led by Cartus’ Brenda Thoeny-Johnson, Director, Strategic Business Solutions—provided valuable insights into global mobility’s vital role in enabling organizations’ DE&I strategy. To help organizations better understand the role that DE&I plays at a strategic and tactical level across markets and borders, industry thought leaders discussed opportunities to build DE&I fundamentals into policy to create a more supportive, inclusive, and successful organization. Highlights of the panel included insights on how to strengthen DE&I initiatives by:

  • Incorporating DE&I into personal diversity statements for each employee

  • Leveraging pro bono and nonprofit support to include the community in corporate endeavors

  • Creating policies that accommodate personal lifestyle choices, family situations, and preferences without needing to identify sensitive information to one’s employer

Closing a week full of networking and knowledge sharing, Cartus’ Katrina L. Helmkamp, President and CEO, joined Friday’s “ESG: Doing Good Is Good for Business” panel to address the topic of leading through ESG. The panel took a deep dive into how companies that focus on Environment (sustainable thinking and practice), Social (DE&I, Community Connection, and Employee Well-being) and Governance (Transparency and Compliance) are learning that the ESG mindset powers employee engagement, confidence from clients, interest from candidates and investors, loyalty from supply chain, and better business results through operating efficiency, less waste, and more purposefully designed processes and systems. Panel insights included:

  • Case study findings, including the fact that, in the case of ethnic and cultural diversity, "top-quartile companies outperformed those in the fourth one by 36 percent in profitability" (McKinsey)

  • A more diverse workforce enables innovation to serve underserved segments by internally representing what your external customers want and need

  • Tracking offer and acceptance rates of diverse candidates is key to ongoing DE&I strategy and retention

Representing Cartus

This year’s booth at the Global Workforce Symposium featured top-notch design by our marketing team. From light-up pens to thoughtful guidance, Cartus representatives handed out goodies and information to eager visitors over the course of the conference. Our raffle prize—a pair of Apple AirPods Pro—went home with one ecstatic guest. (And many of us at Cartus came home with armfuls of stuffed toys and other treats!)
