Cartus Relocation Playbook A Guide to Global Talent Mobility in a Post-COVID-19 World

In spite of 2020 being a challenging year, Cartus published blog posts exploring a wide variety of topics, providing valuable information and best practices for relocation and HR professionals. Your views and shares have helped us identify which were the most popular Cartus blog posts of 2020.

#1: COVID-19 Update: Best Practices and Approaches for Addressing Relocation Impact

As the global leader in relocation, Cartus has been closely monitoring the ongoing health situation related to COVID-19, which the World Health Organization declared a pandemic early in 2020, with escalating cases across the globe. In order to offer actionable insights that companies can use to inform their own response to this situation, we canvassed our global client and supplier base early on to learn what actions they took. Those findings were summarized in this post.

#2: Internship Impact and Innovation Amid Disruption

Summer internships play a critical role in developing organizations’ future talent pools and give college students an opportunity to showcase their skills. With COVID-19, we saw a significant impact on internship opportunities as companies had to quickly make decisions based on the daily changes occurring across the globe. Our Pulse Survey, COVID-19 Impact on Internships, illustrates how respondents have changed their approach to internships for 2020.

#3: Cartus Relocation Playbook: A Guide to Global Talent Mobility in a Post-COVID-19 World

While mobility professionals continued to leverage best practices learned from COVID-19 to plan and prepare their businesses for future pandemics, we acknowledged the shift from organizational needs to employee needs due to increased duty of care expectations by employees.

The “Cartus Relocation Playbook” is the result of our collaboration with our clients—exploring their challenges and unique ways of overcoming issues during this unprecedented time. Combining these findings with knowledge from our vast global network, we created this in-depth resource to explore four key indicators of the relocation industry and share recommended strategies for navigating our new global environment.

#4: How I Learned to Stop Stressing and Home School My Own Way

Cartus Director of Business Development Karen Marlborough totally reset her home schooling goals as a working Mum based on advice from teachers and mental health experts.

Many of us emerged from lockdowns with a renewed appreciation for the work of schools and teachers, seeing first-hand educators doing their very best to provide an education with no time for pre-planning to upgrade their technology or develop e-learning techniques. If there was a positive to draw from the situation, parents, teachers, and children adapted and learned to work more in partnership.

The days of schooling from home and having more first-hand involvement with kids' education may be with us for some time yet. Goals need to be based on what is realistic for your circumstances, and what is sensible for your mental wellbeing as one learns to realistically balance supervised education while working.

#5: Celebrating Hari Raya 2020

Muslims around the world celebrated Eid al-Fitr, a celebration after one month of fasting, from dawn to sunset during Ramadan. It is also a month that encourages followers to focus on purification, charitable acts, prayers, and an overall increased closeness to God. For most Muslims, it is generally a communal observance with a gathering for meals between friends and families that break the fast called iftar, preceded by joining the evening congregational prayers held daily in mosques.

In 2020, followers observed the month of Ramadan while grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic. Ramadan came while most countries were observing restricted movements or lockdowns, which limited the communal activities for most Muslims in those countries. While the celebrations were not like anything we were used to, people made accommodations that provided comfort.
